Mt. Amadablam expedition is one of the most charming expedition peak in the Himalaya standing 6856 meters tall. It one of the favorites among different climbers all around the world. Located at the heart of Khumbu region, the mountain sits just above the Tengboche monastery, the largest monastery of Everest region.

Mt. Amadablam expedition offers a technical climbing experience in an incredible setting with several cultural, local, and scenic diversions. Although the height of Ama Dablam is only 6812 meters, the expedition involves climbing steep ice, rock and snow. You can find three camps during the Ama Dablam expedition above the basecamp. But, you will spend your night in only two of those base camps.

During your climbing expedition, you will follow the South- West ridge to Ama Dablam. The ascent from Ama Dablam base camp to camp 1 is challenging. Climbing Ama Dablam involves severe rock climbing through steep snow and ice runnel.

The routes to Mt. Amadablam expedition  is technically challenging, especially when the route from camp 2 becomes more technical. In order to conquer the Ama Dablam mountain expedition, all the climbers should have good knowledge of rock and ice climbing. When is the Best Time to Climb Amadablam Expedition?

Autumn and Spring are the best time for Ama Dablam Expedition. Autumn falls in the month of September, October, and November. Likewise, Spring falls in the month of March, April, and May.

During these seasons, the climbers face less difficulty in comparison to the other seasons. Both the Autumn and spring offer a favorable weather temperature for the climbing expedition. Although it may be chilly in the higher elevation, the lower areas remain warm during autumn and spring.

How Difficult is Amadablam Expedition?

Ama Dablam is one of the most difficult climbing expedition in Nepal. The climbing involves using technical pieces of equipment such as ice axe, ropes, hammers, ascenders, etc.

The climbing expedition becomes challenging as you reach to camp one. From camp one, you will have to take several narrow ridges and climb the snowy rocks. You will see a 15 meters pitch after crossing the camp 2. This pitch is one of the hardest and the most difficult parts of the climb.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)

Day 03: Fly to Lukla then trek to Phakding (2,652m/8,700ft): 40 min flight, 3-4 hours trek

Day 04: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,283ft): 5-6 hours

Day 05: Namche Bazaar (3,440 m/11,283 ft): Acclimatization Day

Day 06: Namche Bazaar to Dingboche (4,410 m, 6-7 hrs)

Day 07: Debuche to Pheriche (4,300m/14,107ft): 5-6 hours

Day 09: Pheriche to Ama Dablam Base Camp (4570m/15000ft): 5-6 hours

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)

Today is the first day of your trip. You will arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport where you will see our representative from Exciting Nepal holding your name. He will greet you and immediately transfer you to your hotel.

Day 02: Trip Preparation Day and Sightseeing around Kathmandu.

Today we will hold a pre-trip meeting at your hotel where you will get a chance to ask questions regarding your trip. You will meet your guide and other fellow climbers who will go along with you on your journey.

After attending the meeting, you can take a tour to Kathmandu Valley. You can find several cultural and historically significant places in the capital city, Kathmandu. You can visit places which are among the UNESCO world heritage sites such as Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath and many more.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla then trek to Phakding (2,652m/8,700ft): 40 min flight, 3-4 hours trek

Maximum Height: 2800 meters

Trekking Duration: 3-4 hours

After having your breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Kathmandu Airport to take a flight to Lukla. It will take you around 40 minutes to reach Lukla from Kathmandu. On arriving at the Lukla airport, you will meet the porter before you start your trek to Phakding.

After interacting with the crew members, you will head towards Phakding. We will descend down through the shades of Rhododendrom trees on our way. The trail passes across the Dudh Kosi river. After walking for about 3-4 hours, you will reach Phakding.

Overnight at Phakding.

Day 04: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,283ft): 5-6 hours

Maximum Height: 3440 meters

Trekking Duration: 5-6 hours

From Phakding, you will head towards Namche Bazar today. You will walk alongside the Dudh Koshi river through the pine and alpine forest on this day. After walking for about an hour, you will have the first glance of Mount Thamserku.

From there, you will walk along with the pine and juniper forest crossing several suspension bridges and prayer flags. After entering the Sagarmatha National Park, you will have some of the great views of the Himalayan ranges.

Phakding to Namche is a day of crossing the suspension bridges. En route, you have to cross several suspension bridges including the Hilary suspension bridge. Also, the long steep ascent from Hilary suspension bridge to Namche is also a highlight of todays trek.

Namche Bazar is the gateway to the Everest region which is home to many teahouses, hotels, lodges, and restaurants.

Day 05: Namche Bazaar (3,440 m/11,283 ft): acclimatization

Today is the acclimatization day for you. Acclimatization is mainly for adjustment purpose before you trek to a higher altitude. For acclimatization purpose, you will have two options today. You can either walk around the captivating Khumjung village of the region and interact with the Sherpa people. You can also hike up to the Everest View Hotel for the first view of Everest.

You will see the gorgeous Himalayas along the way to the Everest View Hotel. For the ones who want to hike for a little longer, trekking to the Khumjung Village might be an option for you. The trek is about 5-6 hours.

Day 06: Namche Bazaar to Debuche

Trekking Duration: 6-7 Hours

From Namche Bazar, you will head towards Tengboche today. You will visit the largest monastery of the Everest region, Tengboche monastery. You will walk alongside the Dudh Koshi river and pass through several beautiful villages today.

After trekking for about 6-7 hours, you will descend towards Debuche. Overnight in a lodge at Debuche.

Day 07: Debuche to Pheriche (4,300m/14,107ft): 5-6 hours

Maximum Height: 4300 meters

Trekking Duration: 5-6 hours

From Debuche, you will trek towards the Imja Khola today. You will visit the Pangboche Village on your way to Pheriche. Pangboche is one of the captivating villages of the Everest Region which is surrounded by some of the popular mountains such as Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kangtaiga and many more.

From the village, you will continue walking for about 4-5 hours to reach Pheriche. Pheriche is also a beautiful village where you will stay overnight.

Day 08: Acclimatization

Today is the second day of acclimatization. Acclimatization helps in reducing the chances of altitude sickness. Altitude sickness is very common when climbing high altitude. Similarly, during the Ama Dablam expedition, chances of altitude sickness is very high.

To minimize the chances of getting altitude sickness, you will take a hike above the Pheriche village. After the uphill and downhill hike, you will return back to Pheriche village.

Day 09: Pheriche to Ama Dablam Base Camp (4570m/15000ft): 5-6 hours

Maximum Height: 4570 meters

Trekking Duration: 5-6 hours

Today, you will head back to Pangboche and cross the Dudh Koshi river. You will follow the trails to Ama Dablam Base Camp and take and ascend before you reach the base camp.

Ama Dablam Base Camp lies at the height of 4600 meters on the foot of Mount Ama Dablam. Most of the routes are visible from the Base Camp itself.

Day 10: Acclimatization and Pre-climb training at Ama Dablam Base Camp

Today is the third day of your acclimatization before you climb Ama Dablam. Our guide will help improve your technical knowledge regarding climbing techniques and using climbing equipment.

You will learn a more proper way to use the ice axe, crampons, climbing boots, harness, ascender, ropes, etc. The pre-climbing training is especially to boot your confidence and increase the chances of a successful mountain climb.

Overnight in Ama Dablam Base Camp.

Day 11-25: Ascending and Descending of Ama Dablam (6856m/22488ft)

Maximum Height: 6856 meters

From the Ama Dablam Base Camp, you will move to the eastward direction to the height of 5150 meters at the broad saddle from where you will be able to see the Mingbo La. From there, you will take an ascend to advanced base camp at the height of 5400 meters. You will follow the ridge which will take you to camp 1.

From camp 1, you will continue walking through the crest of the ridge. Before you reach camp 2, you will see a 15 meters pitch just below it. This pitch is one of the hardest pitches on the climb. You will now follow the route to camp 2.

Camp 2 sits at the height of 5900 meters with a very limited tent space. The route from camp 2 leads to a snowy ridge. The route will take you to a gully between Grey Tower and the Lower lock Buttress. From there, you will take short snow to ascend to reach the Mushroom Ridge. You will walk through some steep snow sections before you reach Camp 3.

You will take the climb to snow and ice slopes which are above camp 3. From there, you will continue climbing towards the right to reach Dablam. On moving west you will see a small snowfield below the Bergschrund. After crossing the Bergschrund, you will climb the ice crest following a thrilling climb to the summit.

Day 26: Trek to Namche- Lukla

After conquering the Ama Dablam expedition, you will descend towards Namche today. It will take you around 6-7 hours to reach Namche from Ama Dablam. After arriving at a market in Namche, you will take a visit to a restaurant for refreshments.

Namche is a large market where you can find many small and big stotes. You can buy souvenirs for your friends and family from one of the shops at Namche Bazar. From Namche, you will trek to Phakding and then to Lukla.

Day 27: Fly back to Kathmandu

Today is the last day of your Ama Dablam Expedition. You will catch a flight from Lukla to reach Kathmandu. After arriving at the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel where you pack your things.
